Replacing the Brush Roll (Models WITHOUT Brush Control)

PLEASE NOTE: The actual Dyson featured in the pictures is a DC07 model without Brush Control. The steps taken to the remove the Brush Bar is identical to DC04 models.

PLEASE NOTE: Always disconnect the Dyson from the mains before commencing work.

1. Start by laying your Dyson onto it's back and, using a two pence piece, turn each of the three soleplate fasteners a quarter of a turn in an anti-clockwise direction.

2. Remove the soleplate by prising it, underneath the centre soleplate fastener, away from the cleaner head.

3. Using a large screwdriver prise the belt from the motor shaft.

4. Pull the brush roll out of the cleaner head.

5. It is recommended that the belt is changed at the same time as changing the brush roll. Fit a new belt to your new brush roll and then thread the belt through the opening in the brush holder.

6. Then, paying careful attention to the shape of the end caps (arrowed). Ensure that the new brush roll fits correctly into the cleaner head.

7. Fit the belt onto the motor shaft by inserting a large screwdriver shaft into the loop of the belt (arrowed) and stretching it over the motor shaft. Paying careful attention not to damage the belt in any way. Before refitting the soleplate, gently rotate the brush roll to ensure that it rotates freely and that the belt is not trapped.

Reassembly is a simple matter of reversing the steps listed above.
