Replacing the Belt (Models WITHOUT Brush Control)
PLEASE NOTE: Always disconnect the Dyson from the mains before commencing work.
Although the Dyson featured in the pictures is a DC07 Standard, the steps for changing the belt are identical to DC04 models.
1. Start by laying your Dyson onto it's back and using a two pence piece, turn each of the three soleplate fasteners a quarter of a turn in an anti-clockwise direction.

2. Remove the soleplate by prising it away from the cleaner head, underneath the centre soleplate fastener.

3. Using a large screwdriver prise the belt from the motor shaft. Being carefull not to damage the belt in anyway.

4. Pull the brush roll out of the cleaner head.

5. Slide the old belt off the brush roll and fit a new one.

6. Thread the new belt through the opening in the brush holder.

7. Then, paying careful attention to the shape of the end caps (arrowed). Ensure that the brush roll fits correctly into the cleaner head.

8. Fit the belt onto the motor shaft by inserting a large screwdriver shaft into the loop of the belt (arrowed) and stretching it over the motor shaft. Paying careful attention not to damage the belt in any way. Before refitting the soleplate, gently rotate the brush roll to ensure that it rotates freely and that the belt is not trapped.

Reassembly is a simple matter of reversing the steps listed above.
