Replacing the Motor
The example shown below shows a DYSON DC01 fitted with an AMATEK motor. Dyson fitted both AMATEK and YDK motors to the DC01 range. Pleases ensure that you know which motor your Dyson is fitted with before ordering a new motor.
PLEASE NOTE: If your are in anyway unsure of any of the steps listed below. Please consult a qualified electrician and always remove the plug from the socket before commencing work.
1. Remove the soleplate assembly by removing the 3 crosshead screws (arrowed) and gently pulling the soleplate away from the cleaner head.
2. Holding the brush roll firmly, pull the brush roll out of the cleaner head. The belt will become untensioned as soon as the brush roll is removed. So please be careful and hold the cleaner firmly with your other hand.
3. Lay your Dyson onto it's side and insert a flat bladed screwdriver under the cleaner head at it's pivot point (straight arrow) and gently prise the head upwards. Then rotate the whole of the cleaner head away from the bin assembly (curved arrow) and the cleaner head will come away from the main body.
4. Remove the cleaner head by placing your left hand on it's outer edge and using your thumb pushing against the cleaner main body (arrowed). Gently push the cleaner head away from the main body.
5. Remove the bigfoot by unhooking it from it's pivot points. Firstly from the right side (side furthest away from the motor shaft), then the left side (arrowed).
6. Using a Torx T15 screwdriver remove the six screws securing the lower motor cover.
7. Carefully remove the lower motor cover leaving the motor still in the main body.
8. Before removing the motor from the main body take note of which wire is connected to which terminal.
9. Grasp the motor assembly firmly and carefully remove it from the main body. Taking note of the way the notch in the motor plate fits into the main body.
10. When the motor is fully out of the main cleaner body. Remove the motor plate, taking careful note of it's correct allignment on the motor (top arrow) and then remove the motor seal (bottom arrow) and fit them to the new motor.
Reassembly is a simple matter of reversing the steps listed above.
