Cuts Out Intermittently
PLEASE NOTE: If your are in anyway unsure of any of the steps listed below. Please consult a qualified electrician and always remove the plug from the socket before commencing work.
The most likely cause of your Dyson DC07 cutting out intermittently is a broken power cable. All vacuum cleaners suffer from broken cables from time to time due to their constant back and forth movement. They break either at the point were the cable enters the vacuum or, less frequently, just below the plug. The best course of action is to replace the cable. It is false economy to simply shorten the cable, as the whole cable has been flexed over and over throughout the cleaners lifetime. And a shortened cable often fails quite soon after the repair. Please follow the instructions below to change the power cable.
1. Start by unwinding the cable from the rear of the Dyson. Remove the wand assembly.
2. Remove the cyclone/bin assembly from the front of the DC14.
3. Using a Torx T15 screwdriver, remove the screw holding the switch cover in place.
4. Then use a large flat bladed screwdriver to gently push out the two locating tabs. Situated either side of the wand recess.
5. Pull the switch cover away from the main body.
6. Use a thin screwdriver to slide the switch out of it's holder.
7. Remove both the brown (live) wire and blue (neutral) wire from the switch and connect them to the new switch.
8. Then separate the two connectors on the blue (neutral) wire.
9. Pull the cable grommet away from the main body.
10. Cut the blue and brown wires from the end and then pull the cable out through the grommet.
11. Push the new cable through the grommet and then fit the plastic spade covers onto the ends of the spade connectors. (If you find that it is dificult to push the cable through the grommet then lubricate the cable with a little washing up liquid and then wipe the cable afterwards.)
12. Push the grommet back into it's slot in the main body. Then reconnect the brown (live) wire from the cable to the switch and then reconnect the two halves of the connector on the blue (neutral) wires. Then, using a flat bladed screwdriver, carefully push the cable into the circular groove. Finally, push the switch back into it's seating.
Reassembly is a simple reversal of the steps listed above.
