Cuts Out Intermittently
The most likely cause of your Dyson DC08 cutting out intermittently is a broken power cable. All vacuum cleaners suffer from broken cables from time to time due either to their constant back and forth movement or winding and unwinding of the cord. The cable breaks either at the point were the cable enters the vacuum or, less frequently, just below the plug. The best course of action is to replace the cable. It is false economy to simply shorten the cable, as the whole cable has been flexed over and over throughout the cleaners lifetime and a shortened cable often fails quite soon after the repair. Please follow the instructions below to change the power cable.
PLEASE NOTE: If your are in anyway unsure of any of the steps listed below. Please consult a qualified electrician and always remove the plug from the socket before commencing work.
1. Start by detaching your Dyson's cyclone/bin assembly.
2. Then unlatch the pre motor filter cover.
3. Underneath the cover you will find the blue/yellow pre motor filter. Which can now be removed.
4. Remove the wheels by placing a large flat screwdriver into the gap between the DC08's body and the wheel. Ensure that the screwdriver is placed as close to the centre as possible before prising the wheel off.
5. Using a Torx T15 screwdriver. Remove the six retaining screws holding the upper motor cover in place.
6. Then split the upper motor cover from the lower motor cover. Take a moment to examine the layout of the motor and cable inside the casing.
7. From the inside of the upper motor cover. Press out the cable collar.
8. Spread the cable collar open to allow the plug to pass through the upper motor cover.
9. Pull the cable rewind cassette out of it's seating.
10. Finally disconnect the brown (Live) and blue (Neutral) cable wires.
Reassembly is a simple matter of reversing the steps listed above.
